You're welcome on board the old vintage 'Schuitje Vaart' vessels, two classic boats of revitted steel constructure. Built at the same Leiden shipyard, in 1933 and 1949 respectively, they both have eversince been used locally for purposes of pleasure trips and commercial transportation.
The older ship, a nice little saloon boat, offers seating to ten passengers in the oak cabin and an additional one next to the captain's fore position in the wheel house. Regardless of the season this boat will assure you a most pleasant opportunity of seeing Leiden and its surroundings.
The other boat is open. So, without high cabin roof standing up, it can even pass under the lowest bridges in town, a not entirely pointless capability, since, as you no doubt will discover, Leiden's bridge builders showed a marked preference for very, very low bridges.
The seating capacity of this simple though surprisingly comfortable ship is approximately 30. It is especially attractive for sunny summertime trips in and out of town.
Your captain and host will be Koene Dirk Parmentier. Born in Leiden in 1949, naturally still unaware then of his second boat being simultaneously built, he has been living here eversince, steadily gaining thorough knowledge of all characteristics of his city, which he will share with you, telling the old townstories in his peculiar, pleasant and informal style.
